Lina Yachnin

Oil, Watercolour

Lina's objective is to draw the viewer’s attention to the components of an image that she finds inspirational. Composition functions as the basis of her work, and she applies semi-abstract approach to further simplify and strengthen the surrounding landscape. She enjoy using oils and watercolour, as both have an appealing interactive quality. Through the use of vibrant colour, as well as her love for the outdoors, Lina strives to engage the viewer on an emotional level.

Lina grew up in Montreal and graduated with a Bachelor of Education from McGill University. She taught special education for six years in Toronto. She started painting 25 years ago while raising her children, and studied watercolour under Katherine Taylor, Morton Baslaw, Leonard Gerbrandt and oils under Robert Hyndman at the Ottawa School of Art.

She has received several awards and is a Fellow of the Ottawa Watercolour Society. Her work can be found in both private and corporate collections in Canada, the U.S., Sweden, Latvia and China. She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions including at the Cube Gallery, Tulip Festival, Art in the Park, Santé Gallery, Centrepoint Theatre, Orleans Visual Arts Centre, and St. Brigid's Centre for the Arts.
