Felted Purses

My love of colours, textiles, and the natural world brought me to the art of wet felted wool. Each purse begins with me choosing the colour combinations. I lay down thin wisps of wool roving as the base layers to form the shape of the purse. I use a piece of plastic or styrofoam as a resist so the front and back of the purse will not felt to each other. This creates a pocket for the inside of the purse. I then lay down a variety of fibres that add different textures, shine, and movement to the design. Soapy water and a lot of friction make the fibres felt together to create a solid piece. Each purse takes on its own personality as I am creating, which is why I give them names!
