Sgraffito is my preferred surface decoration technique. It allows me to pluck images from my daily life (and beyond!) and to move back and forth with ease, across the blurry line that divides pure decoration from narration. I hand build as well as throw work to have more control over the forms which I can carve into.

The interplay between the form and the sgraffito decoration is the most satisfying part of the making process. It also has a pronounced impact on the nature of the completed work, as the narrative is interpreted by the user.
