“Water and Stone”
by Brian Turner
August 2-21, 2019
Vernissage: Saturday August 3, 1 – 4 pm
Galerie Old Chelsea is pleased to present “Water and Stone” by local award-winning watercolour artist Brian Turner. Water and Stone is a collection of paintings capturing the majesty of the vast and brooding presence that Pierrre Burton refers to in his book “Klondike”. “The experience of naked rock and brooding forest, of slate colored lakes and gaunt pines, of the wolf’s haunting howl and the loon’s ghostly call is one that is still shared by the majority of Canadians … There are few of us who do not live within a few hours’ drive of nature.’ He stated that as Canadians we are ever aware of ‘a presence at our back door of a vast and brooding wilderness”.
This series is a focus on the harmony and contrast of the diverse visual moods of water and its interaction with the ever-present, silent, stoic emergence of rock and stone that permeate our Canadian wilderness.
Brian’s work has been displayed at numerous local galleries and galleries in the Muskoka area. A recently elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists as well as the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor, Brian’s work will be featured this summer in the Society of Canadian Artists’ 51st Open International Exhibition in Toronto as well as the American National Watercolor Association’s International Open Exhibition in San Pedro, California.
