Françoise Brazeau Ferguson

Françoise began painting seriously in the seventies. The next ten years of her life were devoted to family and art. Through those years she attended regular classes at the Ottawa School of Art, working under various accomplished artists such as: Bruce Heggtveit, Robert Hyndman, Morton Baslaw, and others.

From 1977 to 1984 Françoise owned and managed a framing business and art studio in Pointe Gatineau, QC (Le pinceau d’art) where she led workshops that were very well attended. During those years she personally participated in numerous exhibitions (groups and solo) and sold paintings to individuals across the country and to some living abroad. In 1984 when her three children were in school, she opted for a change in lifestyle and went to work for the Canadian Medical Protective Association. After a successful career, Françoise has retired and resumed her visual art activities, participating in workshops, painting outdoors and in studio. She is very engaged in the visual art community with membership in: the Ottawa Art Association, the Ottawa School of Art, Arteast, Arts Ottawa East, and is on the executive board of Galerie Old Chelsea, East Central Ontario Art Association, and Orleans Art Studios Tour.

Françoise uses watercolour, pastels, pencils and oil, the latter being her preferred medium.  Landscapes and portraits are her favourite subjects. She particularly enjoys outdoor (plein-air) painting. The play of the wind and sun on the leaves and water inspires her creativity enabling her to create traditional paintings that capture the beauty of her surroundings. In contrast, when she paints portraits, her goal is to draw out and reproduce on canvas the inner life of the person/model.

In recent years, after a jury or committee selection process, Françoise Brazeau Ferguson has had the privilege of exhibiting her works in a number of venues including: Art au Pluriel in Gatineau, the Ottawa Little Theatre, Dow's Lake Court in Ottawa, the Ottawa School of Art Boutique Gallery, the Shenkman Art Centre, Galerie Old Chelsea, Patrick John Mills Fine Art Gallery, Visitor’s Centre in Algonquin Park, Ottawa Civic Hospital, Art Lending in Ottawa, Maison de la Culture in Gatineau, Galerie virtuelle CIASF (Centre d'intervention en abus sexuels pour la famille), Colours on the Bay in Rockland, Galerie Outaouais in Gatineau, and others.
