Marianne Feaver
Born during the time my father was posted to the Netherlands , I have had the good fortune of growing up in a number of different countries and picking up a few languages along the way. Although art was always a passion of mine, it became more so when I obtained a BA in Fine Arts and Spanish Literature at the University of the Americas in Mexico . I worked for a time as a graphic artist in Greece , and an art consultant in Montreal . For eighteen years, I worked in the film industry out of Montreal thus satisfying my creative instincts on a different level. In 1984, I came to Ottawa with my husband and first baby. At this point, I started painting in earnest, taking some refresher courses at the Ottawa School of Art, and the Nepean School of Art. As the children grew older and more independent, I was able to spend increasingly more time at my easel.
Nature is my first love, whether it be the delicate petals of an oriental poppy or the gnarly ancient olive trees. I look for the way light falls through the branches of the forest or glistens on a pond. I tend to see the world on the bright side and celebrate the wonderful colours that surround us. In full admiration of the Impressionists’ ability to capture the essence of a scene, enhancing it with bold strokes and colours while simplifying the subject matter, I attempt to move in that direction.
Whether I am painting “en plein air”, or in the studio with the music turned up loud, art is a passion that gives me great joy. I hope my work exudes some of my joie de vivre.
